This top Houston suburb is perfect for families

Located in the western part of the Greater Houston metropolitan area, Katy is a city conveniently just a 30-minute drive from downtown. Katy was formally settled in the mid-1890s and was a railroad town along the Missouri-Kansas-Texas (MKT) Railroad — the first railroad to enter Texas from the north. Today, it’s considered one of the best suburban areas in Houston.

Katy has a wide range of housing options and architectural styles, including a beautiful selection of single-family homes ranging from Prairie to Modern Mediterranean. You’ll find large yards in many of these houses, ideal for raising a family and letting pets roam free.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

You’ll happily do a lot of shopping at Katy Mills, a popular shopping center with over 175 stores including Kate Spade New York, Michael Kors, Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5th, Under Armour, and Steve Madden. Together with the renovations the mall underwent in 2019, visitors are bound to have a delightful shopping experience.

LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch is a place where you can do it all: shop, dine, live, work, and play. Relax at one of the spas, shop at Eddie Bauer, Athleta, and White House | Black Market, to mention a few, or catch a workout class at Cycle Bar or Pure Barre. LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch is also home to tasty restaurants. You can’t miss Snooze A.M. Eatery for incredible breakfast food with creative twists, and Ambriza, the best social Mexican kitchen with authentic cuisine and award-winning margaritas. Things to Do

Katy loves hosting a variety of family-friendly events throughout the year to engage the community and encourage outdoor activities and fun, including the Farmer’s Market on Grand Parkway every Saturday.

The best place to endure the Texas summer heat is Typhoon Texas Waterpark. Family-friendly, where visitors will have a blast whether they’re with family or a group of friends. The park has several water attractions, yummy food, a bar, and the option to add a little luxury and privacy to your visit by reserving one of their many cabanas.

Katy’s parks are definitely one of the best things about the area. The Katy Dog Park is bound to become your pet’s favorite spot. With plenty of trees and grass, it was designed to be the perfect place for dogs and their owners to exercise together. Within Katy City Park, you’ll find several sports fields, courts, and picnic tables, as well as the award-winning Katy Play Station, the state’s largest innovative playground at 13,000 square feet, a children’s favorite. Visit Katy Heritage Park & Historical Homes for enchanting strolls where you can appreciate restored historic buildings along with beautiful landscaping.

Visitors and residents alike also love Central Green. This park and public plaza is conveniently located on the south end of LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch and has an open lawn, outdoor stage. It also hosts a variety of events like outdoor yoga/fitness classes, movie showings, arts events, and live music concerts.
