Located within the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan area, Richmond is a small city situated along the Brazos River. Named after Richmond, England, the town was first incorporated by the Republic of Texas in 1837. Early Richmond residents include several prominent figures in Texas history, such as Jane Long, also known as the “Mother of Texas”, Erastus “Deaf” Smith, and Mirabeau Lamar, the second President of the Republic of Texas.
